License keys

Time Stream uses license keys to manage access to the app.

License keys are used when starting a free trial and purchasing access to Time Stream helping you manage access across multiple devices.

You can still manage your data without a license. Visit Data management to learn how to export, import, and back up your Time Stream data. Visit Data to manage your data.

Using license keys in Time Stream

Free trial

Time Stream offers a free 14-day trial so you can explore its features before starting a subscription. To get started:

  • Sign up: Enter your name and email, then click Continue.
  • Verification: A verification code will be sent to the email you provided. Enter the code to confirm that you own the email address.
  • Start using Time Stream: After completing verification, you will be directed straight into the app, and your trial begins immediately. The info bar at the top of the app will display how many days remain in your trial.
Note: You'll get a few quick onboarding emails during your trial to help you get started. If you want extra guidance, check the box when starting your trial for detailed onboarding.

Purchasing a license

When your trial period finishes (or at any time before), simply upgrade to one of our plans to continue your Time Stream journey.

Click the Settings icon in the top-right corner of the app and select Manage license:

  • Pick a plan from the pricing table. You can choose a lifetime subscription and pay once, or start a monthly subscription.
  • Proceed to checkout with your selected plan. For security, you'll need to verify your email address by entering the verification code sent to you.
  • Complete your payment on Stripe.
  • Activation: Once your payment is successful, you'll be redirected to Time Stream, where your license will automatically be activated.

Activating your license on multiple devices or browsers

You can activate any Time Stream license on up to three devices or browsers. When you sign up for a free trial or purchase a subscription, your license is automatically activated on the device and browser you used.

To activate it on a different browser or device, follow these steps:

  • Open Time Stream on your new browser or device.
  • Click Already have a license key?
  • Enter your license key and assign a name to your new device or browser.
  • Click Continue. A screen will display your license details so you can confirm everything is correct.
  • Click Activate license. Your license is now active on the new device.

Always keep your license key safe and only share it with devices you own or trust.

Important: Time Stream uses local-only storage for your data. This means that activating your license on another device or browser does not automatically transfer or sync your data. Each device maintains its own local copy. For guidance on managing your data, read this article: Data management.

Managing your license

Troubleshooting license issues

Time Stream periodically checks in with our license server to verify that your license and device activation are still valid. If an issue is detected, you'll see a message at the top of the app explaining what's wrong.

Device authorization errors

If you see the message "This device is no longer authorized for this license", it means your device activation has been removed or is no longer valid. This can happen if:

  • You deactivated this device from the Time Stream portal or another device.
  • The activation was removed to make room for activating a different device (you can have up to 3 active devices per license).
  • There was an issue with your device activation.

To resolve this: Visit the license management screen by clicking the Settings icon and selecting Manage license. You'll be taken to the Time Stream portal and from there, you can either:

  • Re-activate your license on this device if you still have available activation slots.
  • Deactivate another device first, then re-activate this one.

Revoked license

If you see the message "This license has been revoked. You will need to purchase a new license to continue using Time Stream", it means your license has been permanently revoked and can no longer be used.

This typically happens if a refund was issued for your purchase or if there was a payment dispute.

To resolve this: You'll need to purchase a new license to continue using Time Stream. Click the Settings icon, select Manage license, and choose a plan from the pricing table.

If you believe this to be an error, please contact Time Stream support at support@timestream.app for assistance. Include the email address associated with your license key.

Inactive account

If you see the message "Your account is currently inactive. Please contact support", it means there's an issue with the Time Stream portal that requires assistance.

To resolve this: Please contact Time Stream support at support@timestream.app for assistance. Include the email address associated with your account.

Expired license

If you see the message "Your license has expired - please renew your license to continue using Time Stream", it means your license's expiration date has passed.

This only applies to licenses with an expiration date (such as trial licenses and monthly subscription licenses); lifetime licenses don't expire in this way.

To resolve this: Click the Settings icon, select Remove license, and click Buy a license to continue using Time Stream.

If you believe this to be an error, please contact Time Stream support at support@timestream.app for assistance. Include the email address associated with your license key.
